Doch das \u00dcbertragen auf Flugzeuge stellt eine echte Innovation dar. F\u00fcnf bis sechs Jahre flossen bei der BASF Coatings in die Entwicklung der SharkSkin, die den Luftwiderstand reduziert, Treibstoff und damit Kohlendioxidemissionen einspart. Versuche in Windkanal, Computersimulationen und -tests rund um den Rumpf der betreffenden Flugzeugmodelle lieferten tiefgreifende Erkenntnisse zu Aerodynamik und Str\u00f6mungsverh\u00e4ltnissen sowie den Anforderungen an die SharkSkin und ihre Ausrichtung am Flugzeug. Ergebnis ist eine selbstklebende Folie, die eine Rippen- oder auch \u201eRiblet\u201c- Struktur aufweist. Die Riblets messen in der H\u00f6he etwa so viel wie der Durchmesser eines menschlichen Haars. Mit dem blo\u00dfen Auge kaum zu erkennen, mit dem Fingernagel jedoch sp\u00fcrbar. Grunds\u00e4tzlich lassen sich Riblets \u00fcberall dort einsetzen, wo turbulente Str\u00f6mungen herrschen. Beispielsweise an Z\u00fcgen, Schiffen, Automobilen, Windkraftanlagen, etc. Dank des neuen Produkts konnte sich die Coatings-Division 2024 den BASF Innovationsaward sichern.<\/p>\n<p>Bei der Produktion in M\u00fcnster werden die Riblets auf eine Tr\u00e4gerfolie aufgebracht. Auf der Oberseite sch\u00fctzt eine weitere Schicht die Struktur und auf der Unterseite bereitet eine Klebefolie die SharkSkin auf ihren Einsatz am Flugzeug vor. Rund 800 Quadratmeter sind n\u00f6tig, um einen kompletten Rumpf zu folieren. Beim Bekleben des Flugzeugs m\u00fcssen sich die Werker penibel an das Schnittmuster halten, bevor sie die rund einen mal einen halben Meter gro\u00dfen Patches schneiden und sorgf\u00e4ltig von Hand per Gummirakel auf den Rumpf der Maschinen kleben. Denn nicht \u00fcberall sind die Anstr\u00f6mwinkel gleich. Bei einem Transatlantikflug zwischen Deutschland und den USA beispielsweise flie\u00dfen so 1,5 Tonnen weniger Treibstoff durch die Triebwerke. Das reduziert die Emission des Klimakillers CO<sub>2<\/sub> um stattliche 4,7 Tonnen auf nur einem Flug. Allein die 12 Boeing 777 der SWISS seien mit der \u201eHaut\u201c in der Lage, j\u00e4hrlich 15.000 Tonnen Kerosin einzusparen, rechnet Patrick Scherrer, Projektleiter bei SWISS vor. Das entspricht einem Quantum, das f\u00fcr 87 Fl\u00fcge zwischen Z\u00fcrich und Mumbai in Indien n\u00f6tig w\u00e4re.<\/p>\n<p>Im Betrieb ist die Folie extremen Belastungen ausgesetzt. Nicht nur Staub, Sand, Wasser und Enteisungsmittel muss die SharkSkin widerstehen. Auch die enorme UV-Einstrahlung darf der Folie nichts anhaben k\u00f6nnen. Die Deformierung des Rumpfes im Flugbetrieb erfordert obendrein ausreichende Flexibilit\u00e4t. Zudem muss die Folie den hohen Temperaturunterschieden zwischen Boden und Flugh\u00f6he trotzen. Ziel ist nun die Freigabe f\u00fcr weitere Flugzeugtypen sowie die Verwendung der Folie an den Tragfl\u00e4chen. Das wird einen weiteren Quantensprung bedeuten und das Einsparpotential der SharkSkin auf das Niveau der \u201eWinglets\u201c heben \u2013 jener vertikalen Forts\u00e4tze am Ende der meisten Tragfl\u00e4chen von Verkehrsflugzeugen. Und die reduzieren Verbrauch und Emission um gut drei Prozent.<\/p>\n<p>Selbstredend bedarf es regelm\u00e4\u00dfiger \u00dcberpr\u00fcfung der Folie an den Maschinen auf Besch\u00e4digung und Verschlei\u00df. Den Zustand der Riblets mit blo\u00dfem Auge zu kontrollieren, ist freilich nicht m\u00f6glich. Obendrein stellt sich bei einer solchen Pr\u00fcfung stets die Herausforderung, dass sie an allen Stellen des Flugzeugrumpfs stattfinden k\u00f6nnen muss \u2013 auch in der Senkrechten oder gar \u00fcber Kopf. Sperrige und schwere Messger\u00e4te scheiden dabei also von vornherein aus. Daher setzt BASF Coatings auf das zuverl\u00e4ssige, genaue und universal einsetzbare Oberfl\u00e4chenmessger\u00e4t HANDYSURF<sup>+<\/sup> des renommierten Messmittelspezialisten ACCRETECH. Im konkreten Einsatzbereich wird die Rauheitsmessung als Mass der Qualit\u00e4t der Riblets genutzt.<\/p>\n<p>Das HANDYSURF<sup>+<\/sup> verf\u00fcgt \u00fcber einen Messbereich von 370 \u03bcm auf der Z-Achse \u2013 den gr\u00f6\u00dften seiner Klasse \u2013 und erzielt eine Aufl\u00f6sung von 0,0007 \u03bcm \u00fcber den gesamten Messbereich hinweg. Zum Lieferumfang geh\u00f6rt obendrein das Excel Makro \u201eSupportWareII\u201c, das es erm\u00f6glicht die Auswertung in ein Protokoll auszugeben. Der Nutzer hat die Wahl zwischen mit Tastspitzen 2\u00b5m und 5\u00b5m.
